LatIMGs will have a special place in my heart forever because it helped me realize what I was capable of, it showed me that hard work pays off and most of all it helped me to make one of my truest dreams come true: being able to be a part of medicine in the US.
Being on the program has reminded me of why I studied medicine, why having patient contact is priceless and most importantly importantly how important is to be at the top of your end clinically, personally and academically for the very best interest of your patients. Also, a very important reason why I chose this program was how much it encourages us to prioritize and take our USMLE steps.
Being part of LATIMGS internship program was the best thing that ever happened to me. Since I began medical school in Mexico, I knew I wanted to pursue my medical specialty in the USA. When the opportunity arose to join this family, I didn’t hesitate; I seized the chance. My internship in Houston opened numerous doors for me. I had the privilege to learn from world-renowned doctors, engage in research, and fuel my motivation to pursue my goals. During my internship, I achieved two of my greatest dreams: successfully completing USMLE Step 1 and securing a research position in the UT Health neurosurgery department. These accomplishments would have been incredibly challenging without training in the US. As an IMG, making connections and accessing opportunities while outside the USA is exceptionally difficult. LATIMGS has undoubtedly helped me achieve many goals in a short time, bringing me closer to my dream of becoming a neurosurgeon in the US. I’m deeply thankful to Dr. Julieta Argüelles and all of the LATIMGS family for the unwavering support I’ve received. We truly are a family where we support each other. It is always comforting knowing that I don’t stand alone and that I am surrounded by amazing people who are looking forward to achieving the same goals as me.
Participating in Latimg’s program has been an exceptional journey, allowing me to complete my intern and social service years in the USA. This experience has provide me a remarkable opportunity to gain insight into the American healthcare system, learning from top-tier doctors and institutions. The exposure to diverse cases and advanced medical practices has significantly enriched my skill set, fostering a global perspective on healthcare. Engaging in Latimg’s program not only has broadens my medical knowledge but also has opened me doors to valuable connections within the American healthcare system. Interacting with top doctors and institutions establishing a network that extends beyond borders, creating opportunities for collaborative research and professional growth. Moreover, this program serves as a pathway for individuals from Latin America to navigate the steps towards becoming a MD in the US, offering a structured and enriching experience that aligns with the rigorous standards of American medical practice.
Hi everyone, I’m Alejandra Aguilar, a medical student from Mexico currently finishing my internship year in Houston. It’s more than just a community; it’s a beautiful family where mutual support is genunine. Knowing that others understand the path and challenges we all face daily is incredibly comforting.
